Cotton College varsity week 2005.........
1st ever a departmental team 4m our department participated in the cricket competition. The team was initiated by enthusiasm of Suvojit Dutta
( then he was in MSc 1st sem, he was 1st class 1st in 2005, now in Indian Air Force)

The team was prepared with very difficulty, with shortage of players.....but finally it was managed. We practiced in the concrete path in front of TDC IIIrd yr classroom.......Department HOD, KC sir also joined the practice and none of our bowlers got him "out" for three days. He boosted our attitude and said..............." ami hostelot thakute champion asilu, tohote bhalke khelibi...luck only support those who never quit..... all d best".

Arup Saha ( now Senior Engineer at Computer Sciences Corporation) was our captain.
He was a medium fast leg spinner!!!!!

On the scheduled day, the cricket secretary (from ARB hostel) told us to report in Ayurbedic field, Jalukbari, at 8 o'clock in the morning. We all just taking a light breakfast gathered there by 7-30 AM.....

But there was no team to play.....neither the cricket secretary.
The secretary reached there at 10-00 AM .......when we asked him about the match....he did not give any precise answer.

When Arup da asked him "jodi etiya khel nohoi , ketiya hobo kua".......
that guy said..." tohotor besi hoise neki ? mur essa khalabou paru , nekhelabou paru, sup saap bohi thak, jetiya beleg team ahibo tetiya khela hobo".....................

We waited and waited, sharing only two breads and water among us..........at 3-00 PM The SNBC hostel team reached......and finally we are going to play.

It was a 10 over match.......Arup da won the toss and we batted first, me and Suvojit da opened the batting.....we scored 11 runs of the 1st over......but then we lost Suvojit da.....and next a ball stroked my knee outside leg stump........the umpire said...plum!!!!!.....15/2 after 2 overs.

It was Dipankar Dutta ( now Chemist in OIL) and Jony Bhuyan ( now PO in SBI) in the crease............we did not eat 4 the whole day...........they were hungry........and they filled their hunger with runs.........Dipankar da top scored with 38 runs..............we posted 91 runs in 10 overs......the target was 92.

I bowled the 1st over with a maiden. In my two overs I gave away 3 runs for 2 wickets. Arup da bowled beautifully and took 3 wickets...............after 9 overs their score was 61.....i.e. 31 needed of 6 balls..................Suvojit da was about to bowl the last over........................

But then, that happened what Cottonians should be ashamed of..............the SNBC ians refused to play the last over and gave some weird reasons........demanding a re-match.........according to them.......a departmental team never played and so we should be disqualified.........but we are not to quit...........after a long argument it was decided that the rest over will be played next day............because during the arguement, the sun was set.

We waited in the field and let the SNBCans to go.......there was two way to leave the field....one by university and other by Sundorbari..........as d SNBC guys went towards jalukbari.....we wisely started to move towards sundarbari...............................
but suddenly........

we saw the SNBC boys running towards us........with bat,, stumps in their hands........shouting "oi suoror baccha hot ....rokh ....kot jao"..........................

Ami hoitu polaluheten.........but Chinmoy da said "kunu nopolabi....ami ekeloge thakile ehote eku koribo nuware.....moi KKH ot thaku......sinta nokoribi"..........................
Actually after the whole day fasting.........none of us has the energy to run.....................

About 30-35 SNBC guys surrounded us..............

one of us cried........" oh maa.......kio kheliboloi ahisilu"

They scolded us......threatened us and about to beat us.......

Their leader "Jayanta" ( next year he became the AGS of cotton college) said " tohote jodi kailoi khelibo aho........sobore theng bhangim..........amak sini pua nai...R***i r baccha hot"

Subhajit da e kiba eta kobo khujisil....................but one of the SNBC an said.........." oi kaluwa, tur tel besi hoise......****** "

The evening was getting darker and darker...........we were frightened

But then, our captain Arup Saha delivered a killer dialogue

" Moi cotton ot 5 yr porhisu, HS 2 bosor, degree 3 bosor.....SNBC hostel or kotha moi janu.....mur logor lora tat thake.........kintu moi jonat SNBC r lorai khel2 khel hisape loi..........ontoto enekua kaam SNBC r lorai koribo pare buli moi ajiloike bhabiboi pora nasilu......"

That was just enough to save us.

Next day, we played with MNDP hostel.......nobody wanted to win that game.........we were still shocked..........................And eventually we lost. Dipankar Sarma ( now PO in AVGB) said "moi aji abeli ghoror ticket koriyei ahisilu......aru lifot enekuwa tensonot nafasu"

Things like this happens each year in varsity week in cotton college..........specially in team events..........where the hostellers dominate the non-hostellers by their dadagiri....and .............

Next year, the TDC III rd year local team was disqualified because we are 15 mins late ( the match was 6 0'clock in the morning!!!).........ARB hostel took walk-over ( The cricket secretary was Prasanta Bonia from ARB hostel)........this time my fellowmate Srimanta was beaten badly by ARBans ...........................

After 8 years.......It still pains....................

..........It is difficult to be ideal...........

# কাগজে পত্ৰই আগতে Rig ত ETP (effluent treatment plant) unit চলি আছিল, এতিয়া বহুতকেইটা ৰীগত বাস্তৱত ETP unit দেখা পোৱা গৈছে
# মোৰ ৰীগ সলনি হোৱা নাই, আজিকালি ৰীগত কিবা সমস্যা হলেই DIC এ SMS লাভ কৰে

The chemist opened a drum of Spotting fluid to put it into the slug tank
A black coloured liquid came out
Schlumberger DD asked, "What is this"
Chemist replied, "Spotting Fluid"

Chemist opened another drum.........
This time a Yellowish gray liquid came out
Again the DD asked, "What is this"
Chemist replied, "spotting fluid"

Chemist opened the 3rd drum.......
A colourless liquid came out......
DD asked, "Is it also spotting fluid"
Chemist replied, "Yes , this is also Spotting fluid"

An astonished DD asked, " Why the colour of the 3 spotting fluids are so different?"

Chemist politely replied ,"The 1st one is distilled , 2nd is double distilled & 3rd is highly purified triple distilled spotting fluid"

Schlumberger DD fainted !!!!!!

Chemist finish a movie/gossip with rig crew/read newspaper, novel etc

12-30 PM- Lunch

1 PM- 3 PM
- Sleep

3 PM -5 PM
- On mud tank
(very crucial as during this period well site chemist visits the site)

6-30 PM- Shift complete

If everything OK- Pichla shift ne kuch v nahi kiya, bahut problem hua
If everything not OK- Pichla shift ne kuch v nahi kiya, bahut problem hua, aap dekh lena

(Night Shift)

6-30 PM- Reached site, take over charge, check mud volume

7 PM -10 PM
- Check parameter, labours will load chemicals, make up volume
Chemist finish a 2.5 hr movie/gossip with rig crew/read novel etc

10 PM- Dinner

11 PM-5 AM
- Sleep
(except the driller on the brake, everybody is sleeping)

5 AM- wake up, check parameter

6 AM- Send DPR

6-30 AM- Shift complete

If everything OK--- Pichla shift ne kuch v nahi kiya, bahut problem hua
